Warning

September 24, 2008

Because i’m meeting more and more people who would like to follow my trip, I’ve decided to start this english blog. I will try to update it as the french one.

But, because my english is not so good… and also because i’m a bit lazy, i think i will sometime use some translation tools to write some post. So forgive me for the bad english you will read here.
The french blog

I won’t re-write all my past text. So, this blog will tell you only about what will happen after September : my last days in Helsinki and the following of my trip.

Enjoy it !

Edit 2009/04/10 : I can’t take the time to write in english. So here is the link for the google translation of my french blog :

I rested for a long time in Helsinki and Tallinn : almost two weeks without riding.

My batteries are now very loaded, my paniers are very full (to add more weight, i’m now carrying potatoes).

I’m now leaving Tallinn. Let’s go to Russia !

That’s it, I have got my russian visa this morning. Now, I can stay in Russia from the 2008/10/03 to the 2009/01/01 (I will have to recover fastly from the New Year Party :) ). That’s nice !

To celebrate, two videos. That’s where i’m going to ! I’m pretty sure, after watching them, you are going to take your bike to come after me.

The first one come from an australian guy’s website

The second one comme from an english guy’s website who had riden from Siberia back to home.

I will catch the ferry to Tallinn tomorrow morning. On the road to the siberian winter !

FINLAND – Day 108 – I’m almost ready – 2008/09/24

Around the world

Mise en ligne par rolleh

Now i have spent one full week in Helsinki.

I was waiting for my visa. I will take it tomorrow morning. Hopefully, everything will be OK.

In Pending, I shared my days between shoping and begging and met a lot of very nice people here.

In the shopping side, in french we said : “I have burned the credit card”. I have spent a lot to prepare my cold russian trip. But now, I think I’m almost ready. My bags are more than full. The last thing i bought today was some winter boots. They are so big that I didn’t find an alternative but to put them on my feet to carry them.

For now, it’s so hot in Helsinki that most of my winter clothes are still in the bags. Now i’m waiting for a colder weather to win a bit of space !

If everything is OK, next friday or next saturday, I’m catching a ferry to Tallin.

In the beginning

September 24, 2008

It all started on the benches necessarily cold during my period of Latin high school when I shared the last tables with Couilles Flappie Clement and Janek the Belgian.

We were bad in language but motivated by the Roman culture. The strange details of the texts we were studying woke us up of our lethargy. So did the tight leather pants worn a few times our prof (e).

Among those (details), we have been marked by an extract from the Satyricon of Petronius : ‘”Sophos!” universi clamamus’ (Petronius 40.1), which can be translated as ‘”Great!” all of us exclaim.’

We scored it. And, when we needed to appoint initiatives we take, we find the adjective ‘Sophos’ (for ease and snobbery).

So when we started organizing our cycling tour of Britain in 1999 with Janek and his brother Vincent, we easily called it Sophos Tour. And each year we  were traveling in a new Sophot tour.
